Preparation for a Successful Job Application

Updated: Mar 8, 2023

When someone decides to look for a job, the first thing they usually do is update their CV, which is fine! However, a candidate who intends to look for a job should not forget to perform specific steps to ensure a smooth and more strategic process in their search for a job and transition to a new job. It needs proper planning and a good start.

What does it mean?

As a candidate, it is essential that you need to start your process first by checking the following documents first:

Passport

Whether you work in the UAE or elsewhere, your passport should be valid for more than 6 months after receiving the job offer. If your passport validity is below 6 months, chances are your visa won’t be processed. There is a higher probability that the immigration officer of the country where you intend to work would reject your visa application. And so, you should check this earlier to have enough time to renew and get a new passport.

Employment Contract

Before you submit your application anywhere, if you are currently employed, you must know about the conditions mentioned in your employment contract. These conditions include your notice period, financial responsibility with your employer (if applicable), visa cancellation process, and entitlements (pay/leave/bonus/commission, etc.) and those off-limit organizations you can approach. With this information, if you are aware beforehand, you can adequately plan your exit from your current employer and give accurate details on your joining date.

Other Documents.

When you join a new organization, there are several documents that you need to submit. And if you are unfamiliar with them, it is suggested that you go back to the old list of documents you received when you first got a job. In general, the requirements would be the same such as your passport photograph, degree certificate, and other government-mandated documents.

Another thing is collecting data from your last performance review is part of your gathering of documents. Having this document will help you reflect on your strengths, achievements that you can highlight in your CV and during the interview, and your area of improvement that will allow you to research more and practice it before you get your first call for an initial phone interview.

Recently, here in the UAE, the government has been very strict about producing an attested degree certificate

Recently, the UAE government has strictly implemented that all certificates should be attested. As a candidate, this might not bother you, or maybe your current or previous employer didn’t require you to submit one before, so you just forgot about it. But it has an impact on your job application. Many companies would prefer to hire a candidate with an attested document. Why? Because it has less cost impact on them and they can get you a job title that you deserve based on the job function you are being hired for.

Getting a new job cannot be done in the spur of the moment. It needs preparation. If you can define the process clearly, create a strategic move, and executive them properly. Undoubtedly, you will not have a problem landing a new job opportunity.
