Could You Qualify for a UAE Golden Visa? What to Check Before You Apply

You have probably heard someone say: “I got my Golden Visa.”

Maybe it was a colleague, a friend, a doctor you know, a business owner or someone who recently invested in property.

And your next thought was: “Could I qualify too?”

If you already live and work in the UAE, have built your career here, own a business, made an investment or are simply planning your future in the country, it is worth checking.

The UAE Golden Visa is a long-term residence option for eligible individuals. Depending on the qualifying category, Golden Residency can be issued for five or ten years, without the need for a sponsor. Eligible holders may also sponsor family members. [1]

But there is one important point:

What worked for your friend or colleague may not necessarily apply to you.

UAE Golden Visa Eligibility: Could Your Profile Qualify?

There is no single Golden Visa route for everyone.

Official UAE categories include investors, entrepreneurs, specialised talents, scientists, outstanding students and graduates, humanitarian pioneers and frontline heroes, among other qualifying profiles.[2]

For UAE-based professionals and individuals, your eligibility may therefore depend on which category your profile falls under.

You may need to look at factors such as:

  • Your profession and employment

  • Qualifications and educational documents

  • Salary and employment information, where relevant

  • Professional or specialised experience

  • Business ownership or investment

  • Property investment

  • Entrepreneurial background

  • Supporting documents required for your particular category

The important part is not to assume you qualify based on one factor alone.

Having a certain job title, salary, company or property does not by itself tell you which Golden Visa route applies. The requirements depend on the category under which you are applying. [1]

“I Own a Business. Is That an Investor Visa or UAE Golden Visa?”

This is another common area of confusion.

If you own a company or are a partner in a UAE business, you may already know the term Investor Visa.

But an investor-related residence route and Golden Residency are not automatically the same thing.

Investors can qualify for Golden Residency when they meet the applicable requirements. At the same time, the UAE also provides other residence routes for investors and business partners. For example, eligible investors or partners can obtain a Green Residence for up to five years, subject to the relevant conditions.[3]

So if you are a business owner, the better question is not simply: “Can I get an investor visa?” It is: “Which UAE residence option best matches my current profile?”
